Learning and courses

The Wychwood Project runs lots of events from Drystone Walling courses, Learning walks, Volunteer parties, Scout movement events to Parents and Toddler groups.

We support local interest groups such as Bird Aid, Flora Group, Walling Group, Scything Group, Hedgelaying Group, Learning Group, Swift Group; providing equipment, clothing and training if required.

We very much hope the events below can go ahead, but will continue to review safety as we move through the year. If we have to cancel events, we will offer a full refund. We will add events periodically, so keep an eye on our page.

We try to make our events as inclusive as possible, but when events are held outdoors in nature some venues can present access difficulties. If you are concerned about mobility issues or have any other special requirements, please get in touch with us at info@wychwoodproject.org.uk before booking.

Sunday 9th May 2021: Birdsong for Beginners Walk

If you're a birdsong beginner who wants to learn more about the birds of the Wychwood, this is the event for you! Join Louise Spicer and Christine Elliott on an interactive walk around the Charlbury area and learn to identify birds by their songs and calls, as well as plumage, size, and behaviour. You'll be part of a friendly group and questions are welcome.

Due to COVID, we can only welcome 10 people on each walk (two groups of five). The first walk will begin at 9.15am and the second at 10.45am. Each walk will last around 75 minutes, starting and finishing at the Rose and Crown in Charlbury.

We request a donation of £10 per participant.

Saturday 19th June 2021: Family Fun Wood Whittling and Carving with David Knight at Foxburrow Wood - morning session

Whittling Wood with a keen knife has a noble tradition. Take advantage of children's natural fascination with carving wood to teach them respect for sharp tools, to act safely and responsibly - but also to have fun, letting their creativity loose along with the wood chips!

This session is for children aged 10-14 and their parents/carers to explore the world of wood whittling and carving. There are five places available for adult/children pairs - and we expect the adults to join in too!

All tools and materials will be provided for the event. Participants are encouraged to bring any whittling or pen knives they may have to receive expert advice on their use for wood carving and advice on sharpening.

David will run two different sessions: a morning session from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and a separate afternoon session from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Find out more and book for the morning session here.
