Learning and courses


The Wychwood Project runs lots of events from Drystone Walling courses, Learning walks, Volunteer parties, Scout movement events to Parents and Toddler groups. 

We support local interest groups such as Bird Aid, Flora Group, Walling Group, Scything Group, Hedgelaying Group, Learning Group, Swift Group; providing equipment, clothing and training if required.




15 or 16 April 2020: Go Wild with Wychwood: Campfire skills - Foxburrow wood, Milking Lane, Witney

Come and join us at Foxburrow Wood for a day of campfire skills, for 8 - 12 year olds.  Fire lighting without matches - feather sticks, natural tinder, charcoal making, camp cutlery whittling, nettle cord making.  Spend the day learning the basic skills you need if you wanted to survive on an adventure in the countryside. 

On the day you will learn:

  • Several methods of matchless fire lighting
  • How to make a feather stick to use to get the fire going easily
  • Which natural products can be used as tinder
  • Charcoal making on your campfire
  • How to make some campfire cutlery by whittling available timber
  • How to make string from nettles without getting stung

You will need to bring:

  1. Packed lunch, snacks, favourite drinks
  2. Suitable clothing, weather appropriate

The Wychwood Project will provide:

  1. Specialist trainers
  2. Trained 1st Aiders
  3. All equipment, tools and other necessary items
  4. Tea, coffee, squash, water
  5. Shelter
  6. Outdoor loos

29 April or 5 May 2020, 10.30 am: Bluebell Walk - Singe Wood, Hailey

Enjoy a walk through Wychwood Project's very own beautiful bluebell wood. Enjoy the scent and sight of a carpet of bluebells beneath newly emerging leaves. This private site will only be visited as part of a part of a small guided group so book now to avoid disappointment! Parking details will be sent out once you have booked.
