Tree planting
We have planted over 1500 trees since the start of the project in 2007 at two very different sites.
Oxford Brookes Students from the Ethical Geographer Course planting their share of the 1000 trees at Finstock
Swinford Lock
We planted 600 trees to create a small area of woodland that will benefit wildlife and local people who enjoy walking along beside the Wharf stream on the edge of Eynsham.
The trees are a mixture of native species; hazel, alder, ash, guelder rose and dogwood that don't mind having their roots in water for some time. This site often floods as it lies between the Wharf stream and river Thames.
The work didn’t finish with the end of the planting as we go back a couple of times a year to cut down vigorous grasses, thistles and nettles that might overwhelm the young trees
Finstock
We planted 1000 trees to create a new hedge, 180 metres long, alongside the footpath from Finstock to Ramsden. This is a mixed native species hedge with hazel, holly, field maple and spindle trees. This site is owned by a private landowner so he will take care of the maintenance of the young trees.
