Widford

Extract from Discovering Wychwood by Charles Keighley

2 km (1.5 miles) east of Burford. From the Old English, meaning 'willow ford'. Formerly a medieval village on the south-west edge of Wychwood, nowadays a shrunken hamlet.

13th-century St Oswald's Church, built on the site of a Roman villa, lies in fields north of the river which show signs of the old village layout.

Best approached on foot from Swinbrook.
