Eynsham Abbey Fishponds
v in action at Eynsham Abbey Fishponds in May 2010
Different groups of volunteers from Wychwood v have made a great impact on the fish pond site again this year.
Unemployed young people from the Tuesday Team, students from the STEPS programme at Abingdon and Witney College and sixth formers from local schools have helped to clear the car park of sprouting trees and stumps to extend the parking area and improve visibility onto the road. They also had a great time clearing and widening one of the perimeter ditches to help the flow of water around the site.
Verity Hughes from the parish council told them how grateful the parish council, and people who enjoy the fish pond site, are for their energy and enthusiasm.
It is back breaking work and there are not many people in the village who have the time and/or the energy to tackle the work at the moment. Jane Bowley, Wychwood v Project Officer says, 'The photographs show how hard the work is but what a positive attitude and sense of fun the volunteers bring to this work, they are a great gang to work with.'
